Overview

Bowel resection may be indicated for:

  • blockage of the intestine (intestinal obstruction) due to scar tissue or tumors
  • bleeding, due to diverticulosis or arteriovenous malformations
  • injuries
  • cancer
  • precancerous polyps
  • familial polyposis
  • infection, due to diverticulitis
