Veligrotug-vvze injection

Veligrotug-vvze injection is used treat thyroid eye disease(TED; Graves' eye disease; a disorder in which the immune system causes inflammation and swelling behind the eye). Veligrotug-vvze is in a class of medications called monoclonal antibodies. It works by blocking the action of a certain protein in the body that causes inflammation in the eye.

Veligrotug-vvze injection comes as a liquid to be injected intravenously (into a vein) in a doctor's office or medical facility, or at home by a nurse. It is injected slowly over a period of 30 to 45 minutes on day 1 of a 21-day cycle. The cycle may be repeated 5 times.

Veligrotug-vvze injection may cause infusion reactions during or shortly after you receive a dose of it. You may receive certain medications before your infusion to prevent a reaction if you had a reaction with previous treatment. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms: feeling hot, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, headache, or muscle pain.

Your doctor may slow down your infusion, stop your treatment, or treat you with additional medications depending on your response to the medication and any side effects that you experience. Talk to your doctor about how you are feeling during and after your treatment.

This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Before receiving veligrotug-vvze injection,

• tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to this medication, any part of this medication, or any other medications, foods or substances. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about the allergy and what symptoms you had.
• tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take while receiving veligrotug-vvze injection.
• tell your doctor if you have or have ever had inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; a group of conditions that cause swelling of the lining of the intestines) such as Crohn's disease (a condition in which the body attacks the lining of the digestive tract, causing pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and fever) or ulcerative colitis (a condition which causes swelling and sores in the lining of the colon [large intestine] and rectum), prediabetes (higher than normal blood sugar), or diabetes
• tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. You should not become pregnant while you are receiving veligrotug-vvze injection and for at least 6 months after your final dose. Talk to your doctor about birth control methods that will work for you. If you become pregnant while receiving veligrotug-vvze injection, call your doctor. Veligrotug-vvze injection may harm the fetus.
• tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
• you should know that veligrotug-vvze may cause serious hearing problems, including potentially permanent hearing loss. Tell your doctor if you or a family member have hearing loss not related to normal aging. Your doctor will monitor your hearing before, during, and after your treatment. If you experience hearing changes (loss of hearing, increased sensitivity to sound, ringing in the ears), call your doctor immediately.

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue your normal diet.

If you miss an appointment to receive veligrotug-vvze injection, call your doctor as soon as possible.

Veligrotug-vvze injection may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• muscle spasm
• headache
• hair loss
• unusual tiredness or weakness
• dry skin
• missed, irregular, or painful menstrual periods

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms or those listed in the SPECIAL PRECAUTIONs section, call your doctor immediately:

• diarrhea, rectal bleeding, abdominal pain and cramping
• extreme thirst, frequent urination, extreme hunger, blurred vision, weakness

Veligrotug-vvze injection may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while receiving this medication.

If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online (https://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch) or by phone (1-800-332-1088).

Your healthcare provider will tell you how to store your medication. Store your medication only as directed. Make sure you understand how to store your medication properly.

Dispose of unneeded medications in a way so that pets, children, and other people cannot take them. Do not flush this medication down the toilet. Use a medicine take-back program. In case of overdose, call the poison control helpline at 1-800-222-1222. Information is also available online at https://www.poisonhelp.org/help. If the victim has collapsed, had a seizure, has trouble breathing, or can't be awakened, immediately call emergency services at 911.

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor may order certain lab tests to check your body's response to veligrotug-vvze injection.

Keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines, vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements you are taking. Bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to the hospital. You should carry the list with you in case of emergencies.
