Cefepime and Zidebactam Injection

Why is this medication prescribed?

Cefepime and zidebactam injection is used to treat urinary tract infections (UTI) caused by specific bacteria. Cefepime is in a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. It works by killing bacteria. Zidebactam is in a class called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying cefepime.

Antibiotics such as cefepime and zidebactam injection will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.

How should this medicine be used?

Cefepime and zidebactam injection comes as a powder to be mixed with liquid and injected intravenously (into a vein). It is infused (injected slowly) every 8 hours over 1 hour. The length of your treatment depends on the type of infection that you have and how well you respond to the medication.

You may receive cefepime and zidebactam injection in a hospital or you may administer the medication at home. If you will be receiving cefepime and zidebactam injection at home, your healthcare provider will show you how to use the medication. Be sure that you understand these directions, and ask your healthcare provider if you have any questions.

Use cefepime and zidebactam injection exactly as directed. Do not inject more or less of it or inject it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

You should begin to feel better during the first few days of treatment with cefepime and zidebactam injection. If your symptoms do not improve or get worse, call your doctor. If you still have symptoms of infection after you finish cefepime and zidebactam injection, tell your doctor.

Use cefepime and zidebactam injection until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. If you stop using cefepime and zidebactam injection too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
